The CBLI is proud to be an official supporting organisation at the launch of the London chapter of the highly successful Wokai microfinance project. Wokai - 我开 - means "I start" in Mandarin is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to alleviating poverty in China through microfinance. Wokai’s approach uses the internet to allow contributors around the world to provide loan capital to borrowers in rural China, empowering them to lift themselves from poverty. Through www.wokai.org, contributors loan as little as $10 to a borrower, collect repayments each month, and allocate capital to a new borrower at the end of the loan cycle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since the website launch in 2008, Wokai has raised over USD$370,000 in loan capital from 47 countries, enabling over 470 recipients in rural Sichuan and Inner Mongolia to start and expand their businesses.
